New HR Chap. 13 !!!
What Johnson neglects to mention is that Biblical Creationism is Darwinism's perfect foil: an ancient absurdity that most Free Thinkers, "Trekkies" and Unitarians naturally reject in favor of Victorian science. In short, Darwinism's saving grace is that most of us, inexplicably, feel compelled to believe one or the other. Without Christian Fundamentalists mucking everything up, Darwinism would perhaps be treated to the scrutiny that all influential theories deserve (e.g., Marxism, Freudianism, and other narratives imposed upon reality). Questions worth considering include: Darwinism's genealogy (the attempt to apply Malthusian economics to biology), Science as Fetish - or Public Idol - rather than methodology (compare with the modern [mis]use of the term "terrorism"), Darwinism as Psychological Warfare (if the Ruling Class can convince the "lower orders" that they're animals, perhaps they won't complain so.much when they're treated as such), Darwinism as the motor mechanism behind "scientific racism" (the appeal of neo-eugenicists [the Pioneer Fund crowd] to evolutionary theory), Darwinism as Cultural Imperialism (the catchphrase of the old British Empire was "God is an Englishman." And who better to topple him than another Englishman?) & Darwinism as an expression of 19th c. Anglo-American philosophy (i.e., Logical Positivism).
